Since there is no appropriate assessment of low vision at all in our country, and we do work in our Day Care Center with low vision and blind multiply handicapped children, obviously the need for low vision assessment had to be solved.
As there was no initiative from the medical experts, we have sent our professionals (special ed. teachers) to various courses, we have initialized cooperation with ophthalmologists, and brought low vision specialist to hold educational course for them.
The aim of establishing this cabinet for low vision assessment is to provide conditions of testing children who are multiply handicapped, and to make possible multidisciplinary approach during the assessment of the child, so we can make sure appropriate recommendations have been made for further education and rehabilitation process.
That is why we have to organize more educational courses and include neuro pediatrics, ophthalmologists, psychologists and special education teachers in this process.
The poster presentation will show all necessary steps one have to take to establish low vision cabinet from the very beginning, to implement it in rehabilitation system with fulfilling the final goal of providing the appropriate rehabilitation based on the low vision assessment of multiply handicapped low vision child.
