The ICEVI supported a summer training course for teachers of the blind with an amount of US$6,000. A total of 89 participants coming from selected regions in the Philippines participated in this training course. Upon completion of the course, the teachers had returned to their provinces and began or continued classes for blind students in regular schools. It was by this means that more than one thousand blind children have been enrolled in regular schools nationwide since beginning of this training programme in 1992.
ICEVI was pleased to be a co-sponsor of the 3rd National Teachers Congress on Visual Impairment. The national meeting was held in Cebu City from 20-22 September, 2000 and was attended by 300 special education teachers and school administrators from throughout the Philippines. Plenary and workshop presentations focused on inclusion practices and on services to blind students with additional disabilities. The conference also recognized and provided awards of a number of outstanding teachers.
