The ICEVI principal officers have been giving serious thought to our capacity to accomplish our mission fully; keeping in mind that in order to achieve our goals, we require a solid financial platform. We have created a Finance Committee, whose members are: Carla Herrera, Grace Chan, Neville Lawson, Bill Brohier and Johan Gerestein.
We see the potential for ICEVI’s impact as substantial; only limited by the available funding. We have already obtained results from our three-pronged strategy for addressing our financial challenges mentioned in the last issue of Newsline. We have had some limited but very gratifying results.
1. Our INGO traditional donors can select regional projects that match their interests and provide support to specific regional activities.
To date, we have received donations from The Asia Foundation for Blindness Prevention, the Aurora Ministry, Christoffel Blindenmission, Helen Keller International, ONCE and Sight Savers International.
Foundation Dark and Light Blind Care has also expressed interest in this scheme and is currently reviewing regional projects from Africa and Asia.
2. One of the issues we will be looking at in some detail during our upcoming EXCO meeting will be the establishment of an annual subscription fee that we hope will appeal to schools and other agencies that will help create a more positive economic platform for ICEVI. A plan to set aside a portion of these resources for the regions in which they are raised is also part of our general thinking on this matter.
All efforts to raise support for ICEVI will be done with total sensitivity to the fundraising efforts of our members and hopefully would complement those efforts and result in greater support for the organization.
3. ICEVI traditionally has been supported by donor organizations. We are grateful for this ongoing support but we also want to consolidate a campaign to attract substantial support from corporations and foundations.
Given the fact that our actions are the result of a joint effort, I encourage the members of the ICC to give us some feedback. If there are suggestions, comments or remarks please send them to the Finance Committee cmherrera@infosel.net.mx.
