QUINQUENNIUM 1997- 2002
ISSUE-IV JANUARY, 2002
1 Feb, 2002
Washington, Maine
Dear Friends of ICEVI,
Happy New Year to all of our readers and supporters. I hope this issue of Newsline finds 2002 off to a good start for all of you. I started the new year off with a week of hiking in the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico before returning to the snow covered landscape of Maine. In a few days, I will return to Philadelphia but wanted to get this update off to you before I head south.
For ICEVI, 2002 is off to a great start. With a lot of help from our East Asia Regional Chairperson Grace Chan, I have been pursuing support for ICEVI regional activity in our Africa, Asia and Latin America Regions. In December, I prepared a proposal to the Lee Foundation and have just been notified that they will provide ICEVI with a grant of $500,000 for the period 2002-2006 provided that we can secure matching funds. So there is much work ahead, but also much hope. I would appreciate any suggestions you may care to offer regarding potential sources of matching funds. I will keep you posted on our progress with this exciting and challenging venture, which your Executive Committee will be discussing in detail at our meeting in Germany next month.
I hope by the time this issue of Newsline reaches you that you will have found in your mailbox the first "new and improved" issue of THE EDUCATOR. Congratulations to our Vice President, Harry Svensson and his team for their hard work in getting the magazine back in our mailboxes. I know we all look forward to future issues. Any person who wishes to have a copy is requested to write to Nandini Rawal at the address given at the end of this Newsline.
By the way, to help save printing and mailing costs, we encourage those of you with internet access to read THE EDUCATOR on our website www.icevi.org
The ICEVI Executive Committee will meet in Bensheim, Germany from February 12-15, 2002. The first three days of this meeting will be devoted to the development of an "ICEVI Strategic Plan". As soon as the plan has been devoted you will be able to review it on the website or in the next issue of THE EDUCATOR which will be issued before the 11th World Conference in July.
Speaking of the 11th World Conference, I hope that many of you will join us at the Leeuwenhorst Congress Centre, Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands, July 27- Auigust 2, 2002. Out Dutch Host committee has been working hard to make this 50th anniversary conference a very special occasion. Heather Mason and the Program Committee are lining up an excellent professional programme and we hope that many of you will be there to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ICEVI. If for any reason you have not received registration materials, please contact the Contact Office Fax : 31-24-360-1159 or by Email: icevi2002@congres.net
With sincere best wishes to you, your colleagues and your family as we enter 2002. I hope to meet many of you in the Netherlands this summer.
Sincerely,
Lawrence F. Campbell
President
